Mary Hopkin (natural May 3, 1950) is a British singer.

Innate inside Pontardawe, Wales, she grew up Welsh-speaking and began her musical career as a folk singer. She was "discovered" by Twiggy, and became one of a 1st creative person to record on The Beatles' Apple record label.

Her lone "Those Were the Days", produced by Paul McCartney, was released in the UK on August 30, 1968 (catalogue number "APPLE 2"). Despite competition from either the easily-established star, Sandie Shaw, who freed a self-identical song as a individual, Hopkin's version became the #1 hit in the UK singles chart, & mass produced #2 in the United states.

In February 21, 1969 her debut album Postcard, too by McCartney, was freed. It includes covers of 2 songs from either Donovan, who too played on the album, & a single song both from either George Martin and Harry Nillson.

A next individual was "Goodbye", the Lennon-McCartney song, released in March 28, 1969 ("APPLE 10"); it reached #2 in the UK singles chart and was featured on the Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis. It was saved off a top of the stock and index charts per Beatles' only "Get Back". "Goodbye" has never been officially freed per Beatles, although the demonstratiin version may be witnessed on a select few of the Beatles' bootlegs.

She represented a UK in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest singing "Knock Knock Who's There", which come 2nd in the contest, narrowly beaten by "All Kinds of Everything" performed by Irish singer Dana. "Knock Knock Who's There" was freed as a lone ("APPLE 26") in March 23, 1970, reaching #2 again in the UK singles chart.

When marrying record producer Tony Visconti in 1971, she mainly withdrew from either a pop music scene to have a personal, although she sang backing vocals for "Sound and Vision" on the 1977 David Bowie album Low. Hopkinside & Visconti divorced in 1981.

Within 2005, Hopkin appeared on Dolly Parton's Those Were a Times album, cantabile in Parton's remaking of the title cut.
